Prime Sheep - 03.08.22
On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 4,353 prime sheep, comprising of 1,097 prime lambs & 3,256 cast ewes and rams.
A huge change in the prime lamb ring with demand high, to average 257ppk up 22ppk.
The sale topped at 363ppk from Messrs R G Todd, Crosby Hall, with a pen of 41kg Texel X Beltex lambs, totalling £149 ahead, purchased by Mr R Vivers. This consignment of well finished lambs averaged 314ppk/42kgs.
M/s Jenkinson, Clifton Moor Farm came forward with another great consignment of 136 well farmed, and fed Texel X lambs, averaging 48kgs, topping at £159 ahead for a pen of 63kgs purchased by Mr J Blenkhorn. M/s Clubbs, Old Wall, averaged £139.38/287ppk for their run of Texel x Lambs.
Demand all day for heavy fed lambs was very strong, with more required to fulfil the competition here at Penrith
Texel X Mule Lambs, weighing 54kgs achieved £144, from Messrs D G & L M Strong, Sleagill House, purchased by Westmorland Services.
Another massive show of 3,025 cast ewes were forward to complete ringside of 12 active buyers. The sale topped at £220 for a pen of 5 Texel Ewes from Mr H Mcrae, Huntly selling to Yorkshire Halal.
The trade throughout the sale held exceptionally well both level and stable. A pen of 11 Suffolk X Texel Ewes from Holme House, achieved £165 purchased by Mr A Dawson. With all Suffolk’s sold averaged £132.72. Plenty of pens of Mules were £125-£135, topping at £135, for a ring full of heavy English Mules at £135 from Messrs D G & L M Strong, Sleagill House. Cast Rams topped at £195 for a Texel X Ram from Greenacres Farm.
Numbers are required like this on a weekly basis to fulfil orders and demand in this healthy ring.
