On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 45 OTM Cattle.
Demand for cast cows held strong once again with buyers keen to purchase. The sale topped at £1698.93 (193.5ppk) for a dairy-bred Charolais cow, eight-year-old from Messrs Holliday, Cleamire, purchased by Mr D Barker.
Beef Shorthorn stock bulls topped at £1759.26/163.5ppk from Messrs J & JM Dixon & Son, Berrier End Farm.
A Limousin cross British Blue cow, nine-year-old achieved 217.5ppk/£1522.50 from Messrs R & E Holmes, The Green, purchased by Mr S McGimpsey.
A young Holstein cow from Messrs JG & LM Kindleysides, Wickerslack, achieved 187.5ppk/£1029.38. Older cows achieved £179.5ppk/£1497.03 from Skirwith Abbey, with this consignment of parlour cows averaging £1200.57.
Heavy Holstein cows, straight out the parlour, weighing 803kg achieved £1433.36/178.5ppk from Messrs H & EM Hunter & Son, Berrier.
