Prime Sheep 270722
On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 3,124 prime sheep, comprising of 930 prime lambs & 2,194 cast ewes and rams.
A smaller offering of prime lambs was forward, topping at 298ppk for a pen of 45kg Texel cross lambs from Mr WH Brass, Low Row, realising £134 purchased by Cranstons’ Quality Butchers, this consignment of fifty-six lambs averaged 269ppk/£115.89 for 43kg.
A lovely run of thirty-nine well-presented Texel and Suffolk cross lambs from Messrs WH & M Sisson & Sons, Fenton Farm, averaged 255ppk/£117 for 46kgs.
The cast ewe section topped at £171 twice, firstly for a pair of Texels from Holme House purchased by Pak Mecca Meats Ltd. Secondly for a single Texel from Messrs JE Brockbank & Sons, Westward Park, also purchased by Pak Mecca Meats.
A super show of Mule ewes were forward, topping at £145 from Messrs TJ & JM Powley, Blands Farm, purchased by Mr A Dawson.
A ring full of sixteen Swaledale ewes achieved £103 per head from Messrs W Ridley, Woodhall.
Cast rams topped at £175 for a Texel from Messrs WA & M Mounsey, Walton High Rigg.
