Rearing calves & stirks 080722
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 118 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
Trade held up well on average, except for Black & Whites which saw a small drop in returns. The sale topped at £695 for an eight-month-old dairy-bred British Blue cross bullock from Brackenburgh Home Farms, purchased by Mr JH Horn.
The star of the sale was a twelve-week-old Limousin bull calf from Messrs W Richardson & Son, Ghyll House, realising £680, purchased by regular customer Mr Dale Holgate, Wakefield.
Young heifer calves topped at £440 for an eight-week-old Limousin from Mr EA Harrison, Scarside.
A pair of nicely weaned British Blue bulls, four-months-old, achieved £550 from Messrs JM & J Fisher & Daughters, Holmwrangle.
