Rearing Calves & Stirks 100622
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 141 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
Another very successful sale across the board with new buyers and vendors in attendance at every sale, more numbers of all classes are required on a fortnightly basis to fulfil demand.
The sale topped at £985 for a yearling Limousin cross bullock from Messrs G & JS Robinson, Gunnerwell, purchased by Mr J Field, this home also sold Limousin heifers to a top of £960, purchased by Mr A Brown.
A consignment of beautiful dairy-bred, 12 to 13-month-old British Blue heifers averaged £830 from Messrs RJ & FM Grierson, Musgrave Hall, topping at £850 for a pen of three.
British Blue heifers, 5-months-old, topped at £565 for a pair from Brackenburgh Home Farm, Calthwaite. Messrs Messenger, Howes Farm, sold a pair of 7-month-old Monteliarde bull stirks to £580.
Lots of demand was seen for young calves, with buyers going home empty handed. Messrs Fisher, Yanwath Woodhouse, sold 6-week-old British Blue bulls to £400 and Messrs JH & JE Taylor, The Harras, sold 7-week-old British Blue heifers also achieving £400.
