Store Cattle 090522

On Monday Penrith & District Farmers' Mart LLP held their Annual May Special prize show & sale of 644 Store Cattle, kindly sponsored by PFK Land Agency.
The prize show was kindly judged by E Sedgewick, Long Myres Farm, Durham, who awarded the champion honours to a fantastic British Blue cross heifer from Mr B Duffton, Bogie Street, this selling for £1880 purchased by Mr F Towers, Lancaster.
Reserve honours also went to Mr B Duffton for his first placed Limousin bullock which later sold for £1800, again selling to Mr F Towers.

One of the finest shows of store cattle was forward to a first-class ringside of buyers, looking to purchase all categories of stock. Rumour was heard that the demand had dropped, but that definitely wasn’t the case here today. A sale average of £1206.25 was achieved.
Heifers were leading in front on the day with 318 in the sale selling to average £1228.43, topping at £2100 for a Blonde heifer for from B Duffton, Aberdeen, selling to Mr D Barker. This consignment averaged £1523.77. Bullocks topped overall at £2155 for a Limousin cross from Mary Wilson, Hardrigg Hall, also selling to Mr Barker.

A total of fifty-five cattle sold in excess of £1500, with dairy bread cattle topping at £1645 for Normande X bullocks from Mr J Findlay, Moorside, selling to Mr Frank Towers.

Messrs JE & DL Hodgson, Soulby Grange sold a consignment of Limousin X and Aberdeen Angus X Friesian bullocks to average £1521, peaking in the Angus section at £1595.

Young cattle met some rare returns, with a consignment of twenty-five 11 to 12-month-old Limousin bullocks and heifers from Messrs R and JM Ridley, Ranbeck, averaging a staggering £1255.80, topping at £1485 for a thirteen-month-old Limousin bullock.

An outstanding consignment on the day was a run of thirteen, outwintered, Fleckvieh and Simmental heifers, 20 to 22-months-old from Mr JR Holliday Town Foot Farm, Hunsonby, averaging £1264.23, topping at £1405 with several achieving in excess of £1300.
