Annual "New Fair" & "Troutbeck" - 10.05.22
On Tuesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their Annual “New Fair” Prize Show & Sale of 6,014 Hoggs, Ewes & Shearlings with Lambs at Foot & Geld Gimmer Hoggs together with the “Troutbeck” Sale of Swaledale, Herdwick and Hill Bred Ewes with Lambs at foot kindly sponsored by PFK Land Agency & Alistair Thompson Professional Sheep Services.
The sale opened to a packed ringside of buyers with older ewes and lambs achieving some phonemical trade, with a consignment of ewes and lambs that stood out was a run of 100 from Mr J Winter, Clickham averaging £113.12. Topping at £122 for a ring of full mouth Suffolk ewes with Texel Lambs.
M/s F & M P Allinson, West Brisco, Barnard Castle sold a run of 46 broken mouthed and one quartered Texel X Ewes to average a staggering £96.17.
The sale topped at £205 a life from Mr K Hunt, Braithwaite Shield with a pen of outstanding Texel X Hoggs with Beltex Lambs selling to Mr R Little. Continental Hoggs all day sold exceptionally well with a great spirit in the ring.
Mule Hoggs were forward in great order from several local consigners topping at £190 a life from Messrs Winter, Clickham with some strong powerful lengthy Suffolk lambs at foot selling to the judge Mr R Sizmur.
All Mule hoggs sold to average £105.19, this included several pens of hoggs with twin lambs at foot, which realised £80 plus.
In the “Troutbeck” section of the sale Swaledale ewes and lambs averaged £60.11 a life, topping at £94 a head for a pen of Shearlings & 2 Shears with twin Mule lambs at foot from Messrs RJ & M Ridley, Ranbeck.
