Rearing Calves & Stirks 130522
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 151 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
Another great offering of both calves and stirks was forward to a strong ringside of consistent buyers. The sale topped at £900 for a Limousin cross British Friesian bull, 10-months-old, purchased by Mr A Maw.
A pair of hard Blonde d’Aquitaine suckler bulls, 8-months-old averaged £877.50 from Messrs H & E Trotter, Low Dyke, topping at £885.
Yearling Aberdeen Angus heifers topped at a staggering £800 per head from Mr J Cartmel, Winter Cragg, purchased by Mr J Linsley, with bullocks from the same home closely following at £780.
Messrs G L Armstrong & Son, Blunderfield East, Kirkoswald sold 3-month-old British Blue bulls to £460, with several other bulls in excess of £400 and heifers topping at £425.
New Zealand grazing type Hereford cross calves regularly achieved £200 per head, with plenty over £150.
Black & Whites were in short supply and numbers are required on a fortnightly basis with some concrete orders each sale. Messrs G & E A Harrison, Mount Clifton sold a pen of three 5-month-old bulls to £400.
Young Holstein calves, 21-days-old achieved £66 from M/s Fisher, Yanwath Woodhouse.
