On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 210 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A huge entry was forward to a very busy ringside of buyers travelling from all over the country. The sale topped at £1075 for a Limousin cross British Blue bullock, seven-months-old from A Little & G Cartmel, Hollands, Penton, purchased by Mr C Maclennan, Stirling, this consignment of suckler-bred, eight-month-old bullocks and heifers averaged £861.25
Over 30 purchases were forward to ensure strong bidding for all classes, 8 to 12-month-old bulls were in short supply with a pen of seven Hereford bulls, 10-months-old achieving £770 from Cottage Farm.
Dairy-bred, 7-month-old Limousin bulls from Mr DW Mallinson, Lodge Farm, achieved £730, purchased by Mr JH Horn.
Younger calves took a sharp lift with 8-week-old British Blue bulls achieving £425 from Messrs Turnbull, Monks House, purchased by Mr D Holgate, Wakefield.
Messrs TR and PE Little, Low Moor Dyke, sold 3-month-old Holstein calves to £205 and £200 per head. A ring full of six 10-month-old British Friesian bulls achieved £585 from Messrs H Noble and Son, Sootyhill. Young Black and White calves topped at £90 per head for Holsteins from Messrs Dent, Catterlen Hall.
