Rearing Calves & Stirks 180322
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 153 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A marvellous entry of both calves and stirks were forward to a much busier ringside of buyers and many more could have been sold to vendor’s advantage.
A lovely consignment of three Limousin cross bullocks, ten and eleven-months old averaged £926.67 from Messrs K & SJ Tyson, Dancing Gate Farm, topping at £930 for a pair purchased by Mr J Little.
Heifers topped at £820 for a 14-month-old British Blue cross from Messrs Bellas, Croft Ends Farm, purchased by Mr D Holgate, Wakefield, with the proceeds being kindly donated to the Ukraine War Fund. The sale included a total of 11 calves and stirks donated to the war fund, totalling £4193.
Young calves met a much sharper trade with numbers falling short of requirements, with Black & Whites topping at £145 for a ten-week-old calf from Messrs Wilson, Thackwood Farm, with this consignment averaging £115.
British Blue heifers, 8-weeks-old achieved £425 from Messrs Mallinson, Hall Field, purchased by Mr M Lister. Strong calves from Messrs Turnbull, Monks House, topped at £410 for British Blue bulls, purchased by Messrs Holliday, Bishop Auckland, with the consignment averaging £403.33.
Spring-grass system calves topped at £215 for a British Blue cross bull, 14-days-old, from Dolphenby Farming Partners, this home also sold Hereford bull calves, 14-days-old to a top of £185, purchased by Mr T Ball, with this consignment of 23 calves averaging £106.61.
