On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 202 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
Another record entry for the week with over 200 calves and stirks forward to a packed ringside of buyers with demand through the roof. The sale topped at £1060 for a pen of six Aberdeen Angus cross bulls, twelve-months-old, from Cottage Farm purchased by Mr J Field.
Demand for strong bull stirks has never been as good with Messrs Messenger, Howes Farm, selling dairy-bred British Blues, six-months-old to a top of £825, purchased by Mr C Cook, this consignment of ten British Blue bulls and heifers averaged an amazing £739.
Eleven-month-old dairy-bred Aberdeen Angus heifers topped at £820 from Messrs A&W Johnston, White Fold, purchased by Mr S Chapman. This consignment of 44 six to nine-month-old Limousin and British Blue stirks averaged £658.
Nine-month-old Holstein bulls, topped at £490 for a pen of 3 from Mr B Hogg, Cairnbridge Farm. Black & Whites were in great demand with Messrs Johnston, Skirwith Abbey, selling eight-week-old Holsteins to £134 and £132.
Mr D Graham, Mellfell View, sold seven-week-old Limousin bull calves to £135, purchased by Mr D Holgate.
