March Special Store Cattle - 14.03.22

On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their March Special Show & Sale of 570 Store Cattle, kindly sponsored by David Allen Accountants, Carlisle.

The early morning judging was in the capable hands of Mr I Bowe, Quarry House, Northallerton.

Demand continued to be extremely strong in the Store Cattle ring with vendors achieving over £100 ahead more then ever expected, with some commenting on this being the dearest sale in March ever seen.

The sale topped at £2000 for a British Blue x Limousin heifer also taking Champion honour from Mr B Duffton, Huntly, Aberdeen, 22 months old purchased by Mr W Armstrong.

Heifers stole the show all day with numerous cattle £1600 - £1700 and in total 65 over £1400. Leading in the averages was M/s M T P & S D Wills, Fawcett Park sold the consignment to average £1712.50 topping at £1755 purchased by Mr S Chapman.

Native bred heifers topped at £1475 for a Aberdeen Angus x from M/s A & S Robley, Nelson Hill, Carlisle being purchased by Mr D Barker.

Commercial bullocks archived a centre record with Mr B Duffton selling a none Farm Assurance Charolais to £1915, purchased by Mr D Barker.

Aberdeen Angus bullocks topped at £1695 and closely followed at £1685 also from M/s A & S Robley, Nelson Hill with his consignment achieving £1515.

Younger Cattle achieved some fine returns, with M/s W E & B Wilson, Undercragg averaging £1175.50 for a run of 10 – 12-month-old cattle topping at £1345 with a Limousin heifer 12 months old and bullocks a similar age selling to £1305 both being purchased by Mr J Crichton.

Store bulls also achieved a sharp demand with Mr C Johnston, Skirwith selling a 13 month old Limousin to £1355 and M/s Robinson & Son, Skygarth selling Beef Shorthorn bulls, 11 months old to £1245.

All in all, demand all day was strong and vendors are encouraged to enter for our next sale on the 28th March, entries close 21st March 2022.

The champion animal was purchased by Mr Wayne Armstrong for £2000. This sum was then match funded by Penrith & District Farmers Mart in aid of the Ukrainian war fund.
