On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 73 OTM Cattle.
Cast cows can only be described as having the dearest trade ever seen in the market.
Black & White cows stole the show with all sold averaging 145ppk, topping at 193.5ppk on two occasions, firstly for a 595kg OTM heifer, realising £1151.33 from Messrs Wilson, Hardrigg Hall, purchased by Mr L Fell, with this consignment averaging a staggering £1113.80/186.5ppk. Mr WH Brass, Low Row, also achieved 193.5ppk for a OTM heifer, realising £1269.36, this home also sold an eight-year-old Friesian cow to 162.5ppk/£1048.13, purchased by Mr M Helliwell, with this consignment averaging £1102.06/165ppk.
Messrs Fisher, Yanwath Woodhouse, sold Holstein cows straight from the parlour to average 154ppk/£994. First time vendor, Mr D Graham, Greenah Cragg Farm, hit the right week to show, averaging £1093.27/143ppk.
A run of Black & White cows, up to fifteen-years-old, averaged 149ppk/£995 from Messrs Todhunter, Beeches Farm.
Messrs WE & B Wilson, Hardrigg Hall, achieved 199.5ppk/£1312.71 for a 658kg Limousin cow, purchased by Jewitt Meat Company. This home also sold a Limousin stock Bull to 189.5ppk/£1841.94, purchased by Mr Owain Llyr.
Messrs M Bindloss & Son, Shap Abbey, sold a run of twelve Continental cows, all over eight-years-old in great condition to average £1142.64/173ppk.
Messrs BS&J Strong & Son, Hewer Hill, sold a run of ten-year-old dairy-bred British Blue cows to average £1364.77/181ppk.
Topping the sale at £1407.53 was an eight-year-old British Blue cross Limousin cow from Messrs MTP & SD Wills, Fawcett Park, purchased by Mr David Barker.
Messrs J&M Wood, High Harberwain, sold Beef Shorthorn cows to average a staggering £1246.67, topping at 155.5ppk/£1385.51, purchased by Pickstocks Telford.
