On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 126 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A larger show of stirks was forward to a smaller ringside of buyers, a reflection of the miserable weather for travelling.
Strong cattle sold exceptionally well with Mr B Hogg, Cairnbridge Farm, selling a pen of 3 ten-month-old British Blue bullocks to £760, purchased by Mr JJ Hall, with the same home also selling a pen of 3 British Blue heifers to £740.
Quality maintained some fast returns with Messrs Turnbull, Monks House, achieving £470 for a ten-week-old British Blue bull calf, purchased by Messrs M Ridsdale & Son.
Messrs JM & J Fisher, Holmwrangle, sold a consignment of 4 fantastic, well-turned-out British Blue bull stirks, four-months-old, to average £516.25, topping at £570.
Some cracking British Friesian bull calves were forward with Messrs Todhunter, Beeches Farm, topping at an amazing £350, purchased by Mr P Roddam. Mrs S Armstrong & Sons, Moorriggs, achieved £205 for younger calves, this home also sold a pen of 5 Dairy Shorthorn bulls, four-months-old, to a staggering £310.
