On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 72 OTM Cattle.
Demand for cast cows can only be described as electrifying, with plenty of dairy cows realising 15-20ppk more than previous sales. The whole sale averaged 141ppk, please don’t undersell your cast cows when demand in the live ring is surpassing all other marketing methods.
The sale topped at £2099.08/224.5 for a none farm assured, eleven-year-old, pure-bred British Blue cow from Messrs JE Bellas & Son, Croft Ends Farm, purchased by Mr S McGimpsey, this home also achieved the top-price-per-kilo of 227.5ppk for a ten-year-old British Blue cow, purchased by Jewitt Meat Company.
A ten-year-old British Blue cross Limousin cow, weighing 827kg from Messrs AJ & FM Harrison, Grange Hall, achieved £1501.01/181.5ppk.
Black & White cows smashed records today here at Penrith with all sold averaging 127ppk, with vendors overwhelmed by their returns. Topping at 171.5ppk for a cast Holstein heifer from Messrs B & GC Donald, The Ling, purchased by Mr A Jarvis. Cows straight out the parlour met phenomenal returns with Messrs H & EM Hunter & Son, Berrier, selling a consignment to average 141ppk, topping at 150.5ppk/£1181.43, purchased by Mr L Fell.
Messrs J&B Donald & Son, Lamonby Hall, topped per head at £1216.22.
Messrs S Armstrong & Sons, Moorriggs, sold a consignment of good, square, dairy cows to average £977/143ppk, topping at 147.5ppk for a 668kg British Friesian, realising £985.30, purchased by Mr M Helliwell.
Messrs WJ & R Atkinson, Nook Farm, sold an over-age bullock to 234.5ppk/£1458.59 purchased by Mr D Barker.
