Chirstmas Rearing Calves & Stirks
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their Christmas show & sale of 115 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A larger offering of both calves and stirks was forward to a busier ringside of buyers. Today’s sale also included our Christmas Calf show, which was kindly judged by Mr R Marrs, Manor Farm. The Champion honours were awarded to an 11-week-old British Blue heifer from Messrs Turnbull, Monks House, achieving £520, purchased by loyal mart supporter Mr Dale Holgate, Wakefield, Yorkshire, this consignment of mainly 10-week-old British Blue calves averaged £481.
The sale topped at £940 for a 13-month-old British Blue bullock, from Mrs M Tyson, Fox Tower View, Kirkby Stephen, purchased by Mr J Linsley, Barnard Castle, this home also sold British Friesian bullocks, 12-months-old to £720 & £670.
Young calves topped at £540 for an 11-week-old British Blue bull, from Messrs Turnbull. Mr JR Tiplady, The Bramery, sold a pair of cracking 7-week-old British Blue bulls to £430, purchased by Mr P Bousfield. Young native-bred calves were easier on the fortnight.
