Rearing Calves 011021
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 111 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A larger offering of all classes was forward to a larger ringside of buyers. The sale topped at £670 for eight-month-old British Blue X bullocks from Messrs JM & J Fisher & Daughters, Holmewrangle, selling to Mr D Winder, this run averaged £656 for predominantly heifers.
Messrs JA Ritson, Baggra Yeat, sold a five-month-old Limousin stirk to £565, purchased by Mr D Holgate.
Black & White bull stirks topped at £420 from Messrs J & B Donald & Son, Lamonby Hall, with a pen of four selling to Mr I Prudham.
Young calves took a much sharper lift in demand on the fortnight, a run of eight, 3-4week old Fleckvieh & British Blue X bulls and heifers sold to average £293. The Fleckvieh bulls peaked at £330 & £320 & Blues at £350, all from Messrs AD & FE Elliott, Askrigg Hall.
Messrs JP & GJ Simpson, Knock Cross, sold a pair of twelve-week-old British Blue bull calves to £420, selling to Mr WH Raine.
