On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 3,473 prime
A much improved trade was witnessed across the board with an SQQ average of 251ppk being achieved, up 26ppk on the week, with the whole sale averaging £110.34 per head.
The sale topped at 314ppk for a pen of 44kg Beltex cross Texel lambs from Messrs RG Todd, Crosby Hall, realising £138, purchased by Mr R Skelton.
Messrs Lowis, Galloper Park, sold an outstanding run of 28 Beltex cross Texel lambs to average 297ppk/£122.68 for 41kg, topping at £139 for 45kg.
Heavy lambs took a marvellous lift once again, topping at £146 for 58kg Texel cross lambs from Messrs J&A Wear, Milburn Grange, purchased by Mr J Tucker.
Messrs WK & D Hall, Bells View, sold a run of Texel cross Mule lambs to average 247ppk/£126 for 51kg, purchased by Mr N Lomax.
Messrs T Trafford & Son, Peterhouse, sold 54kg Mule lambs to £126, purchased by Mr N Lomax and Messrs JJ & E Lawson & Son, Hundith House, sold a ring full of 21 Mules, weighing 51kg, to £116, purchased by Mr J Tucker.
The cast section topped at £220 for a superb Texel ewe from Field Gate Farms, purchased by Pak Mecca Meats. Closely followed at £216 for a pair of ewes from Messrs TA & A Jefferson, Aspatria Hall, purchased by Mr J Tucker.
Most classes would be sharper on the week, especially horned ewes with meaty Swaledales topping at £74 from Messrs Roddam, Fordlands Farm, purchased by Yorkshire Halal. Herdwicks topped at £71 from Mr J Cartmel, Winter Crag.
Texel rams topped at £172 from Sky House, purchased by Mr J Tucker.
