Rearing Calves & Stirks 170921
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 93 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A larger entry was forward on the fortnight with quality and strength very good to sell. The sale topped at £780 for a pen of three British Blue bullocks, nine-months-old, from JM & J Fisher & Daughters, Holme Wrangle, Armathwhaite, purchased by Mr D Winder. This home also sold a pair of British Blue heifers to £740 per head.
A pair of younger Simmental bull stirks, 4 to 5-months-old achieved £510 per head from Messrs G & EA Harrison, Mount Clifton, purchased by Mr I Prudham.
Quality young calves sold exceptionally well with Messrs GL Armstrong & Son, Blunderfield East, achieving £450 for a British Blue bull and Mr KJ Burne, High Barn, selling eight-week-old British Blue bulls to £440, purchased by Mr R Cullen.
Plainer calves were harder to sell but still kept up with local competitors.
