Prime Sheep 110821
On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 3,077 prime sheep, comprising of 1,344 prime lambs & 1,753 cast ewes and rams.
Prime lamb demand took a very nice rise with an SQQ average of 252ppk being achieved. Topping at 318ppk was a pen of 39kg Beltex lambs from Messrs R.G Todd, Crosby Hall, totalling £124, selling to Yorkshire Halal. This run averaged £120.37 for 43kg.
Messers W.A & M Mounsey, Walton High Rigg, sold a cracking run of 27 lambs weighing 39-41kg to average 296ppk.
Messrs W Gribbon & Co, Waterside Farm sold a run of Texel cross Beltex lambs to average £122.84/293ppk for 42kg.
Topping the sale per head was Messrs TF & GL Pollock, Wreay Hall Farm, selling 51kg Texel cross Lambs to £146, purchased by West Scottish Lamb. This run averaged £123.38/46kg.
Messrs Coulston, Hole House, sold a run of Mule-bred Texels and Suffolks to average a staggering £122.83/252ppk for 48-51kg’s.
Messrs Clubbs, Old Walls, Irthington sold their usual well-fed, heavy lambs to average £122.21/261ppk.

Another flying cast ewe trade was witnessed, with a sale average of £107.38, most definitely dearer on the week.
The sale topped at £198 a head for Texel cross ewes from Messrs D & R Cornthwaite, Balgray Hill, Lockerbie, selling to Mr J Tucker.
Messrs J Stalker, Ratten Castle sold a cast Texel tup to a top of £185, purchased by S & S Meats, Darlington.
A great show of Mule cast ewes was forward, topping at £126 from Messrs Marston, Millstone Moor, with a ring full of 31 realising £124 from Backmuir Livestock. All Mules sold averaged £106.89.
Horned ewes took the largest lift with plenty of pens in excess of £80 a head and topping at £98 from Millstone Moor.
