Rearing Calves & Stirks 250621
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 155 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
Another great sale was witnessed with 155 sold, compared with 22 last year off only 4 vendors. The sale topped at £810 for an eleven-month-old Limousin cross bullock from Messrs RM & LA Woodhouse & Son, Howe Farm, purchased by Mr J Ellwood, this run of 10-11 month old dairy-bred bullocks averaged £777.50.
A ring full of six British Blue heifers, nine-months-old from first-time calf vendors DE & DR Ewart, Nunfield Farm, achieved £700 per head, purchased by Mr WH Raine.
Five-month-old Montbeliarde bull stirks achieved £585 from Mr R Greenwood, Westwood, Skipton, purchased by Mr A Ross.
Younger calves were forward in larger numbers to an extended ringside of both local and travelled buyers. British Blue heifers, 11-weeks-old from Turnbull Farming, Monks House, sold to a top of £500 purchased by Mr K Hunt, this was closely followed at £490 twice for British Blue bull calves from Messrs GL Armstrong & Son, Blunderfield East.
A marvellous demand was witnessed for young, native calves with Messrs DR & HM Horsley, Woodhouse, selling Hereford heifers to £280.
