Second "Newfair" & "Troutbeck" Sale 2021
On Tuesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their second “Troutbeck” and “Latter Fair” sales of 4,227 Hoggs, Ewes & Shearlings with Lambs at Foot & Geld Gimmer Hoggs.
A huge offering of ewes and lambs was forward to a very strong ringside of buyers. Topping the sale at £150 a life was a cracking pen of Texel cross hoggs with Beltex lambs at foot from Mr J Winter, Clickham Farm, selling to Mr WH Brass, Crosby Ravensworth. Next up at £140 a life was a pen of Texel cross hoggs with Beltex lambs at foot from Messrs JH & JE Taylor, The Harras, purchased by Messrs W Gribbon.
Mule hoggs with strength achieved previous sales prices with Messrs Winter, Clickham Farm topping at £128 per life, selling to Mr M Lawson. Several other pens sold to £120 plus.
Older ewes achieved some extreme returns, with full mouthed Suffolk ewes with Texel lambs at foot realising £108 per head from Mr G Fisher, Midtown Farm. This home sold full mouthed Cheviot ewes with Beltex lambs to £82 per head.
Continental shearlings topped at £138 a head from Mr Carruthers, Towcett Farm, for a pen of singles, this full run averaged £106.57 all through.
Mr J Twentyman, Applegarth topped the Troutbeck sale at £89 per head for two crop Swaledale ewes with Mule twin lambs at foot, selling to Mr M Lawson. This run of 134 Swaledale ewes, 2-3crop, all with Mule lambs at foot averaged £72.74.
Messrs NP & MD Lancaster, Roseleigh sold strong Herdwick ewes with twin gimmer lambs at foot to £97 a life, purchased by Mr P Hall.
