Prime Sheep 190521
On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 1,600 prime sheep, comprising of 195 prime lambs, 450 prime hoggs & 955 cast ewes & rams.
A sharper trade was witnessed for a better show of lambs with an overall sale average of 330ppk being achieved, topping at 400ppk for a superb 42kg Texel cross lamb from Messrs ES & D Noble, Mill Farm, realising £168 purchased by Cranstons Quality Butchers.
The sale topped at £169 per head for 57kg Texel cross Suffolk lambs from Mr WH Raine, Renwick, purchased by Farmers Fresh, this run of lambs averaged £153.55/47kg.
A great run of 33 well-presented lambs from Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor Farm, averaged a staggering 352ppk/£141.73 for 40kg.
Many firms are starting to swap onto spring lambs and more are required for our sale next week.
The hogg trade was definitely dearer on the week with Messrs RW & G Dickinson, High Knipe, selling a pen of eleven 42kg Cheviots to £137 (326ppk), purchased by Yorkshire Halal, this run of hoggs averaged £134.82 for 44kg.
Messrs JG & RW Nevinson & Son, High House Farm, Pica, sold a pen of ten 63kg Texel cross hoggs to £168, purchased by Farmers Fresh.
A smaller show of cast ewes was forward to our complete ringside of buyers, with all looking more eager to purchase than last week.
The sale topped at £178 for Texel ewes from Tarn End, with an overall sale average of £105.10 being achieved.
Horned ewes sold to £92 from Mr TJ Noble, Mellgates, Penrith, purchased by Mr N Lomax, the same home sold Bluefaced Leicester tups to £166.
