On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 1,000 Breeding Sheep.
A huge entry for the time of year was forward to a complete ringside of buyers, demand was very strong for all classes.
Outfits with strong lambs sold exceptionally well. The sale peaked at £114 a life for Texel X Mule Broken Mouthed Ewes with single lambs at foot from Messrs B S & J Strong & Son, Hewer Hill. Closely followed at £108 ahead for Beltex 2 & 3 shear ewes with twin lambs at foot from D R & A E Little, Ennerdale.
A cracking run of Mule shearlings with twin Suffolk lambs from Mr T W Fawcett, Little Blencowe Farm sold to an average of £92.38 topping at £100 ahead selling to Messrs T E Irving & Sons, East Cliff.
Mule 2 shear ewes from Messrs I & P Brown, Oak House sold to £90 a head to Mr J Tucker.
