Spring Sale of Dairy Cattle 160421
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their Spring Sale of 80 Dairy Cattle, including 12 Pedigree Dairy Shorthorns.
A huge success was achieved at our spring sale of dairy cattle, with demand and trade overwhelming for all breeds. The sale received great support from buyers, both local and further afield, ensuring all classes realised some extreme returns.
The sale commenced with a selection of Dairy Shorthorns, topping at 2150 guineas from JM & J Fisher & Daughters, Holmwrangle, purchased by Messrs Sowerby, Townhead Farm, Drybeck.
A beautiful consignment of four perfectly correct heifers from Messrs GA & DE Dent, Winton House, averaged 1900 guineas/£2007.50.
An exceptional run of well-turned-out, freshly calved Holstein Friesian heifers from some notable local herds averaged £1831.76, topping at £2350 for a cracking heifer giving 40 litres from Messrs Errington, Sockbridge Hall, purchased by Messrs TJ & JM Powley, Blands Farm, this consignment averaged £2100.
Messrs Fisher, Yanwath Woodhouse, sold a lovely run of well-turned-out heifers to average £2050, topping at £2150 purchased by Messrs W & SE Dickinson, Kirkbarrow Hall.
In-calf heifers met a fast trade with Messrs Wilson, Thackwood Farm, topped at £1750 for a two-year-old heifer, due to calve in June to the Black & White bull, purchased by Messrs E & SA Edmondson, Nether Houses Farm. This run of eleven in-calf heifers, due to calve in May, June and July averaged £1570.
