Store Cattle 150321
On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their Annual March Sale of 550 Top-Quality Store Cattle.
A marvellous entry of both grazing and feeding cattle was forward to an extended ringside of buyers for all classes.
The sale topped at £1700 a head for a twenty-one-month-old British Blue X Limousin heifer from Messrs WH Raine, Ravenwood Cottage, selling to Messrs Foley Brothers. This run of heifers averaged £1483.75.
This was closely followed at £1670 and £1600 for Limousin X British Blue heifers from Messrs MTP & SD Wills, Fawcett Park, selling to Messrs Foley Brothers and Mr F Towers respectively. This run of heifers averaged a fantastic £1403.33.
Bullocks averaged £1122, topping at £1545 for a Charolais X Simmental bullock from Mr EA Harrison, Scar Side Farm, selling to Mr F Towers, with this run of twenty-two-month-old bullocks averaging £1460.
Messrs R Pigg & Sons, Gaitsgill Hall, sold a sixteen-month-old Limousin X British Blue bullock for £1535, selling to Mr D Barker.
Yearling cattle sold exceptionally well, with numerous animals selling for £1200 and over. A run of sixty Limousin X bullocks and heifers averaged £1077, up £170 on the year.
