Rearing Calves & Stirks 190221
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 117 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
An ever increasing entry was forward today with a full ringside of buyers present, including some new faces around the ring.
The sale topped at £600 for a pen of four Aberdeen Angus bull stirks, 6-7 months old from The Meadows Farming Company, purchased by Mr M Burne. This run of sixteen Aberdeen Angus, Limousin and Simmental stirks, both bulls and heifers, averaged £555.
A ring full of seven Black & White bull stirks, six months old from Messrs H Noble, Crewgarth, achieved a phenomenal £495 per head purchased by Mr A Johnson.
A much larger offering of calves was forward which was very pleasing, buyers were eager to purchase after some smaller shows of late. British Blue bulls achieved £475 for ten-week-old calves from Mr JM Fisher, Holme Wrangle, purchased by Mr A Ross. Aberdeen Angus bulls, ten-weeks-old, achieved £350 from Fluscopike Farms, this home also sold exceptional Charolais heifer calves to £420 purchased by Mr A Mcbride.
Black & Whites sold to some very sharp prices with Brackenburgh Home Farm selling nine-week-old calves to £160, averaging £126.67.
