On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 50 OTM Cattle.
A fantastic sale was had, all classes were very dear with a majority of the show being plainer cows, an overall sale average of 131ppk was achieved.
The sale topped at 193.5ppk (£1488.02) for a nine-year-old British Blue cross cow from Messrs Bindloss, Shap Abbey purchased by Mr Owain Llyr, this run of 9 mainly Limousin cross cows averaged £1169.45/156ppk.
A Ten-year-old Limousin cow from Messrs W Atkinson & Sons, Demesne Farm achieved £1297.39/156.5ppk purchased by Mr D Barker.
Dairy cows were in very short supply with Messrs Strong, Low Brow selling Friesian cows straight-out-the-parlour to 127ppk, purchased by Mr SH Bowes. Younger Black & White cows from Messrs B & GC Donald, The Ling, achieved 155ppk/£855.25 purchased by Mr J Crapper.
Dairy Shorthorn cows, straight-out-the-parlour weighing 710kg, achieved 123.5ppk from Mrs S Armstrong & Sons, Moorriggs, purchased by Dovecote Park.
Stock bulls sold to a very sharp trade, topping at £1596.30/156.5ppk for an eleven-year-old Limousin Bull weighing 1020kg from Mr F Dickinson, Low House, purchased by Mr S McGimpsey.
British Blue stock bulls achieved 162.5ppk for a seven-year-old bull from Messrs Metcalfe, Home Farm, purchased by Mr Owain Llyr.
