Prime Sheep 161220
On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 4,221 prime sheep, comprising 2,479 prime lambs & 1,742 cast ewes & rams.
An SQQ average of 220ppk was achieved. A staggering average considering the previous day’s trading.
A smaller show of lambs was forward to our complete ringside of buyers. The sale topped at £127/295ppk from Messrs JL Armstrong, Crossfell House, with a pen of superb 42kg Beltex lambs selling to Mr M Bowe. This run of lambs averaged 267ppk.
Messrs AJ & FM Harrison, Grange Hall sold a cracking run of 41kg Beltex cross lambs to average 265ppk/£110 a head.
Messrs RW & G Dickinson, High Knipe sold a run of forty-four Texel cross Beltex and Cheviot lambs to average a staggering 265ppk/£110.84.
Messrs M Bindloss & Son, Shap Abbey sold a ring full of twenty-eight Mules, weighing 48kg’s and totalling £94 a head, selling to Mr R Vivers.
A quality show of ewes and rams was forward to our full ringside of buyers, demand proved very strong with a sale average of £85.63, up £13.30 on the week. A total of 552 ewes and rams sold in excess of £100, with numerous averages over £140 per head.
The sale topped at £178 for Texel ewes from first-time customer G Adams, Banchory, purchased by Mr W Shearer, with this run averaging £141.71.
A fabulous run of forty-nine heavy Texel cross ewes from Messrs Clubbs, Old Wall, averaged an amazing £140.08, topping at £169 purchased by Mr J Tucker.
A run of thirty Texel cross ewes from West Cumberland customers T & J Airey, New Grange Farm, achieved an average of £143.47, topping at £175 for a Beltex cross ewe purchased by Yorkshire Halal.
Messrs Dent, Elm House, sold a run of thirty-one Beltex ewes to average a staggering £138.52, with several ewes in excess of £170.
Horned ewes also sold to an extreme trade with all classes being much dearer, topping at £75 for a pen of Swaledales from Messrs Lord, West Dowgill.
Messrs EM & J Holliday, Clea Mire, sold a pen of twenty Mule ewes to £92 per head, purchased by Mr A Dawson.
Cast rams met a spirited trade, with a pen of five Charollais rams from Holme Farm, achieving £140 per head, purchased by Mr D Kemp.
