On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 3,763 prime

An overall sale average of 231ppk was achieved, very satisfying considering previous sales this week. The sale topped at 314ppk for a cracking Beltex cross lamb, weighing 43kg from Messrs Hodgson, Woodfoot, realising £135, purchased by West Scottish Lamb. This run averaged £124.91/281ppk for 44 - 51kg.

Heavy lambs were some of the easiest sold on the day with Mr JM Todd, Southernby Hall, selling 67kg Texel cross lambs to £147, purchased by Mr J Tucker.

Messrs NM Strong, Street House, sold a great consignment of heavy Suffolk cross Mule lambs to £124 for 56kg, averaging £120.63/224ppk for 53 - 75kg.

Great to see customers travelling up from Holmrook with Messrs AD & T Harrison, Brotherilkeld Farm, selling 21 Herdwick lambs weighing 31kg to realise £69 (223ppk) purchased by Mr D Towers.

Messrs Elliott Bros, Harbour Flatt, sold a ring full of 49 Mule lambs to £102.

Plenty of demand for quality, weight and meat, please do take note of this when drawing sheep.

Messrs Coulston, Hole House, sold a run of 79 Texel and Suffolk cross lambs to average 240ppk/£114.03 for 47.5kg.

Another large show of cast ewes was forward to a ringside of thirteen active buyers, trade in places would be dearer on the week with an average of £92.14 being achieved, up £8 on the week.

The sale topped at £198 for a pair of Texel ewes from Greenacres Farm, Aberdeen, purchased by Mr J Tucker, with all Texel and Continental ewes sold averaging £120.47.

A run of heavy ewes from Messrs G& JE Bell, Far Broom, averaged £169.53, topping at £182 for a pen of ten.

Plenty pens of Mule ewes achieved over £100, topping at £115 for a pen of seven from Mr M Holmes, Tilery Farm, purchased by Mr A Dawson. Swaledale ewes topped at £77 per for a pen of twenty-five from Elliott Bros, Harbour Flatt, purchased by Mr J Tucker.

Cast rams were very easy to sell with a Charollais achieving a market record of £220, purchased by Mr M Lomax.
