On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 324 Store Cattle.
A larger show of store cattle was forward to a much larger ringside of buyers. Demand was as sharp as ever, with returns highly satisfying.
The sale topped at £1,485 for a sixteen-month-old Limousin X heifer from Messrs EA & W Strong, Ploveriggs, bought by Mr J Mather. This was closely followed by a twenty-three-month-old Limousin X British Friesian heifer, which realised £1475 from Messrs JG & RW Nevinson, High House Farm, selling to Mr D Whaite. This run of cattle averaged £1382.50.
A pen of 6 Aberdeen Angus heifers, out of Friesian cows, from Mr WH Brass, Low Row achieved £1235, selling to Mr P Foley, with a single from this home standing out, selling at £1295.
All bullocks sold averaged a handsome £1101. Topping at £1415 for a twenty-one-month-old dairy-bred Limousin bullock, selling to Mr R Dickinson.
A pen of 3 big, strong Aberdeen Angus X Holstein bullocks from Messrs DG & LM Strong, Sleagill House sold to £1385, going to Mr D Barker.
Messrs WK & D Hall, Bells View, sold a run of twenty-four-month-old dairy-bred British Blue & Montbeliarde bullocks, straight off grass, to a top of £1335 for a pen of four, bought by Mr J Crapper. This run averaged £1293.75.
