On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 312 Store Cattle.
A much larger show of store cattle was forward to a strong ringside of buyers, this including several new buyers around the ring, this ensuring all classes passed vendors expectations.
The heifer section topped at £1600 for a twenty-four-month-old Limousin cross British Blue from Mr WH Brass, Low Row.
A total of forty cattle sold in excess of £1300, with an overall sale average of £1143 being achieved for a considerably large percentage of dairy bred cattle and commercial cattle.
Bullocks topped at £1595 for a twenty-three-month-old Limousin cross from Far Close Farm, Appleby, selling to Mr D Barker. This run of well-turned-out cattle averaged £1477.50.
Messrs HG Jackson, Littlebeck, sold a run of sixteen-month-old Limousin bullocks to average an unbelievable £1432.50, topping at £1475.
Dairy bred cattle topped at £1585 for a Simmental cross bullock from Mr J Findlay, Moorside Farm, this run averaged £1345.56. Dairy bred heifers topped at £1385 for a pen of five Limousin crosses from TJ & JM Powley, Blands Farm, this run averaged £1358.33.
All classes of cattle are required for our next sale, which is the May prize show & sale of store cattle and feeding bulls being held on Monday 10th May. Entries close Noon Tuesday 4th March.
