On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 3,932 prime sheep, comprising 2,078 prime lambs & 1,854 cast ewes & rams.
A commercial show of lambs was forward with the trade exceeding this morning’s expectations.
The sale topped at 272ppk for a pen of 36kg Beltex cross Texel lambs from Grassknop Farm, realising £98 per head, purchased by Mr A Dawson.
Heavy lambs met a bonanza trade with plenty up £5 per head on the week. Messrs PD Hird, Broomhills, sold 48kg Suffolk lambs to £114 purchased by Mr M Bowe, this run of lambs averaged £106.67/202ppk.
M MacTaggart, Dunjop Farm, Castle Douglas, sold a run of 183 Texel and Scotch Mule lambs to average £103.34/205ppk for 50.5kg. A pen of eighteen 52kg Scotch Mule lambs realised £102, purchased by Mr J Tucker.
Messrs KJ & C Wilson, Wood Farm, sold a run of forty-one Texel cross Mule lambs, weighing 48kg to average 210ppk/£101.20.
Several extra buyers were forward to our cast ewe ring, this section topped at £178 per head for Texel ewes from Mr AJ Bell, Thethwaite Farm, purchased by Pak Mecca Meats, another pen of three Texel ewes from the same home realised £170 selling to Yorkshire Halal.
A ring full of fifteen Mule ewes sold to £98 per head from Green Farm, purchased by Pak Mecca Meats.
