About Us

Penrith Auction Mart is operated by Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP, a group of local farmers and other interested people, who took over the day to day operation from Penrith Farmers’ & Kidd’s in 2002.

The management team is led by David Crowden, Chairman and General Manager supported by 10 farmer directors. We  very much pride ourselves in being “Farmers working for Farmers”.

The stock is drawn from the fertile Eden Valley of Cumbria,  the Pennines to the east and the large area of Lakeland hills to the west.  The district has always been noted as one of the leading livestock areas of the country.  Prospective buyers can come to Penrith in the knowledge they will see some of the best cattle and sheep available in the North of England.

Covid-19 - Important Info for all customers

Under new measures to combat the spread of Covid-19 and whilst continuing to supply the Food Chain, further restrictions have been put in place which allow Livestock Markets to continue to trade, and to protect those whose attendance is necessary to ensure the food supply.

Sales are limited to Prime Cattle,  Sheep and Store Cattle.

All buyers wishing to attend the sale must register with us first and will be required to sign in on arriving.

Buyers must adhere to the rules on distancing.

NO VISITORS TO THE MARKET WILL BE PERMITTED

Due to the current restrictions we will be operating with the minimum number of staff therefore:-

Vendors must pre-book cattle they are bringing to the sale.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR CATTLE HAVE THE CORRECT NUMBER OF TAGS.

All cattle must be in the market by 12 noon on the day of sale. (The unloading bay will be closed at that time) Late arrivals will not be unloaded.  (We will be open at 6 a.m.  and ask that Vendors arrive early if possible)

VENDORS MUST REMAIN IN THEIR VEHICLES WHILST THE ANIMALS ARE BEING UNLOADED AND WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE BUILDING.

THEY MUST IMMEDIATELY LEAVE THE MARKET AFTER UNLOADING.

ALL ENTRY FORMS MUST BE FULLY COMPLETED BEFORE ARRIVING AT THE MARKET.  Please ensure your mobile number is on the form.

Any luck being left for the animals must be written on your form.

(Any Vendor wishing to leave a reserve must indicate this on the entry form).
