A very similar trade on the week with the trade consistent throughout the sale, with £300 being achieved on several occasions firstly from A M Connon & Son, Skilmafilly Farm, Aberdeenshire with 3 Texel Ewes, who’s run of 42 averaged a very hot £215.95. Secondly to Mr P Baker, Lincolnshire with both Charollais and Texel Ewes all selling to Romford Halal. The same home sold a ringful of 25 best English Mules to £188 selling to Mr A Dawson, with two further pens to £170 x 18 & 22. Horned ewes were forward in good numbers with Mr D Raine, Old Parks topping the Swales at £118 with larger pens to £110 x 10, £110 x 25, £108 x 15, £102 x 18. Monster Blackies topped at £146 with larger ewes off grass to £120 x 18, £116 x 35, £115 x 14, £110 x 16, £109 x 44. On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 2,875 Prime Lambs. A bigger entry of 2,875 prime lambs was forward with a far superior trade than pre-sale predictions. A whole sale average of 313ppk or 335sqq or £151.60 per head. 1,990 of the lambs on show were in excess of 46kg. Topping todays trade at 443ppk came for a pen of 3 Beltex’s weighing 42kg achieving £186 from Messrs M Bindloss & Son, Shap Abbey, closely following at 442ppk with a Beltex lamb weighing 38kg, realising £168 from Messrs R Hall & Son, Inglewood Edge. Top price per head of £198 came for a pen of 5 Texel lambs weighing 65kg, from M/s JG & DH Nevinson, High House Farm, this homes run of 29 sold to average £189.38. Suffolk lambs topped today at £195 for 2 weighing 68kg from Messrs D G & L M Strong Ltd, Sleagill House. The Bindloss Family sold Suffolk lambs to 340ppk for a pen weighing 45kg achieving £153. Messrs T Armstrong, Sceugh Dyke sold a pen of Mule lambs to 296ppk for 50kg receiving £148. M/s JC Robinson, Black Leases sold their run of 60 Mule lambs to average 53kg achieving £155.30.
