Yesterday we held our monthly sale of 41 Dairy Cattle.
March proved a huge success for our third monthly dairy sale, with a new market record being achieved by Messrs DW Cannon & Son, Low Abbey, Kirby Thore, for a superb class act, Holstein Friesian x Ayrshire heifer, giving 31 litres, calved 17 days, correct in so many ways, perfect in the udder and bred for strength, realising £3,600 selling to Mr Dent, Darlington.
All cows sold averaged £2,512, topping at £3,200 from Messrs J & B Donald & Son, Lamonby Hall, with a Holstein Friesian X Montbeliarde second calver, giving 42 litres, calved 28 days.A beautiful, sweet, nicely put together beast, maturing into an excellent cow, with this consignment going on to average a hefty £2804.17 and the vendors going home highly delighted, selling a further two at £3,000.
A very busy ringside of buyers was present from all over the country with several going home empty handed. Pure jersey heifers, also from Low Abbey, achieved a top of £1,700, giving 27 litres and calved 33 days, purchased by Mr S Crozier, Silloth.
Messrs Strong, Low Brow, sold British Friesian in-calf heifers to £2,000 on four occasions, with this consignment going on to average £1,800.
The demand from local purchasers shows a strong reflection of the quality and genuineness offered here at Penrith from local stockmen.
