Another phenomenal day here at PDFM. 4,257 hoggs further with another blistering trade throughout with an eye watering average of £187 per head. A sqq average of 414ppk or 399ppk overall with again another mass of heavy sheep. Massive appreciation goes to both vendors and buyers continuing to support us here at PDFM. Some excellent runs of well finished sheep which were very well rewarded. Also big thanks to all the staff who work extremely hard.
Topping the days trading at 564ppk weighing 39kg achieving £220 from Messrs M Bindloss & Son, Shap Abbey for fantastic Beltex hoggs with numerous pens in excess of 500ppk plus. Top price per head of £244 came for Texels weighing 53kg realising 460ppk from Messrs J J Henderson & Son, Park House.
Messrs W R & F D Siddle, Honeypot sold 6 Suffolks weighing 66kg realising £238. Numerous pens of heavy sheep £210 - £225. The same home sold a super pen of 21 Suffolk x lambs weighing 48kg to £199 or 415ppk. Numerous pens of Mule hoggs soared over £200 topping at £215 came for a pen of 22 weighing 58kg from Messrs M T P & S D Wills, Fawcett Park first time consigner Wanwood Partners, Wanwood Hill sold a pen of 27 weighing 43kg to £173 for well fed Mule hoggs.
Hillbred sheep continue to sell with excellent demand Swales topped at £208 for weighing 89kg from Messrs H M & R Ivinson, Hole House, with another pen of 22 weighing 53kg equates to £190 from the same home.
Cheviots sold to £214 for 7 weighing 59kg from Messrs E J Ivinson & Sons ltd, Skelling Farm with Cheviots at 432ppk for a pen of 3 weighing 44kg achieving £190 from Messrs J H & M J Jefferson, High Pow Farm. Messrs J G & D H Nevinson, High House Farm sold 36 at £221.14 with Messrs F Savage, Petteril Green sold 60 to average £219.83.
Lightweight hoggs prove exceptionally good to market for all classes. More sheep are needed to fulfil demand with our large ringside of buyers.

On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 3,351 Cast Ewes & Rams.
Cast Ewes and Rams were completely crazy with most classes up £10 ahead and hill ewes up nearly £20 ahead.
It was fiery from the word go with Mr M McNally, Northern Ireland selling pure Texels to £400 ahead selling to weekly supporters AJ Meats, Birmingham. A total of 32 ewes sellingover £300 ahead that includes a pen of 11 at £300 and 9 ultimate Charollais ewes to £300 again. A further 677 sold over £200 ahead.
Every last Suffolk ewe sold, 535 averaged £201.24 topping at £270 a Suffolk x Texel from Mr B Duffton, Aberdeenshire. Larger pens achieved £240x14, £228x13, £216x22, £215x25, £211x24, £209x23, £208x21, £205x15, £203x12, £199x22.
Horned ewes just comfortably stone crazy with the very best Scotch Blackface achieving £168 from Mr W Morrison, South Bogbain all sold to average £123.44. Larger pens achieving £162x14, £156x17, £140x34, £140, £134x16, £129x22.
Swaledale topped at a mighty £156 from Messrs Lightfoot, Gillside with 12 and Mr L Graham, Perth selling another pen full to £154, the same home sold 28 excellently well-fed pure Shetlands to £108.
The best Scotch Mules sold to £190 from Mr B Duffton with a pen of 20 and a pen of 19 closely behind at £188.
Cast Rams with flesh and weight combine well over £200 ahead topped at £242 for a pair of Texel x Beltex from Green Farm.
