On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held a special sale of in-lamb breeding sheep and geld gimmer hoggs, to include a dispersal sale on behalf of the late Mr TA Pearson, The Faulds. A really busy ringside of buyers were present to witness a genuine flock dispersal from the Pearson Family, The Faulds, Caldbeck. A great packet of well bred Swaledale ewes in lamb to the crossing Leicester. This homes renowned for producing an excellent run of Gimmer Lambs helped set a buoyant and fierce trade with all sold averaging £209.60. Topping at £260 went to the first pen in the ring 3 – 4 shear ewes scanning nearly all twins selling to Mr A Burgess, Blakehills, Troutbeck. A pen of very classy and well bred broken mouthed ewes topped at £205. Messrs M & J Potter, Ulcatrow sold 20 full mouthed Swaledale ewes to a phanomable £190 all scanned twins to the Texel x Beltex with the same home selling broken mouthed ewes scanned twins to £150. On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held our fortnightly sale of a brilliant entry of 234 calves and stirks forward with another trade to raise the roof. All classes of stock are needed to fulfil demand. Topping the days trading at £1570 came for a Charolais bull stirk at 9 months old from Messrs C & P Macdonald, White Dykes, Newton Stewart. The same home also selling Hereford bulls to £1540 and Shorthorns at £1520. Heifers sold to £1490 for a strong Black & White heifer at 18 months old from Mr C Johnston, Skirwith Abbey. Miss E Elliot & Mr T Sayer sold a lovely packet of 5 yearling Blue heifers to £1350. Prior to the sale a lot of interest was in some Charolais cattle from Olivia Robinson & Chris Park these lots sold for £1460 & £1470 for 6 months old. A massive crowd are present here at Penrith, eager for stirks of all classes. get in touch if you have some to market. Calf demand again shows no let off, topping at £1140 for a superb Blue bull at 4 months old from Messrs J H & J E Taylor, The Harras. Messrs R H & K A Graham, Annfield continue to bring the goods up to Penrith with demand growing for their sorts selling both BB & Hereford bulls at 3 months to £900 respectably. Messrs Sherwen, Low Thornley, Egremont topped the heifers with a lovely Blue at £830 for 4 months and this homes run of 7 selling to average £815. Native calves of all classes flying away selling to £750 for 3 months from Messrs D R & H M Horsley, Woodhouse. Black & White calves are short of supply due to sexed semen but the Dent’s from Bridge End brought the goods and reaped the rewards selling to £650 and £600 for 4 months old. 2 month old pure Friesian calves topped at £360 from R W & A J Jackson, Clarks Farm. On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 2,856 Prime Hoggs. Another fantastic day in Penrith & District Mart. 2856 Hoggs were forward with another lift of over £6 resulting in huge pounds per head average or £170.25 sqq of 378ppk overall £345.92 with only 923 sheep in the sqq average. Topping the days trading at 485ppk for 40kg realising £194 from Messrs M Bindloss & Son, Shap Abbey with the same home selling 36kgs realising £170 or 472ppk. Top price per head of £204 came from Messrs T E Irving & Son for 2 achieving 57kgs with another 2 at 56kgs equalling to £203 or 363ppk. Top consignment average or £190.77 came from Messrs F Savage, Petteril Green selling 25 fantastic Beltex and Texel Hoggs. Messrs T E Irving sold there run of 52 mainly Suffolk hoggs to average £188.77. A pen of 19 Suffolks from this home sold 57kgs to £190. Mule Hoggs continue to boom here in Penrith selling to a top of £185 for a pen of 20 weighing 60kg from Messrs Lowis, Waterside House. Messrs H M & R Ivinson, Hole House sold his run of 59kgs to average £180.32. Mule Hoggs sold to £374ppk for a pen of 23, weighing 42kgs for clipped sheep from S Robinson, Thrang Cragg. Pure Herdwicks from Messrs Bland, Clea Hall sold a pen of 13, weighing 38kgs to realise 382ppk. All classes of stock can be sold to vendors advantage here in Penrith. New purchases operating yesterday with 11 active buyers present. We also conducted our light lamb collection at around 12:30pm on a Wednesday, where yesterday we had 656 lambs over the weigh bridge.
