Today we held our fortnightly sale of 219 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A bumper sale of calves & stirks was forward, with trade on fire for all classes, if you haven’t tried us yet now really is the time. The sale topped at £1,720 for a pair of 15-month-old Simmental heifers from Mr J Findlay, Moorside Farm, purchased by Mr C Parsons.
Bullocks topped at £1,460 for a beautiful 5-month-old Charolais suckler from first-time consignor Messrs C & P Macdonald, White Dyke, with this homes run of 10 averaging £1,302. All classes of stirks are in strong demand and many more are required next fortnight.
Calves were on fire from start to finish, topping at £760 for a 10-week-old British Blue bull from Turnbull Farming, Monks House. Charolais calves were exceptionally good to sell with Messrs JM & J Fisher & Daughters, Holme Wrangle, selling a 3-week-old bull to £750.
Heifer calves proved the best to sell on the day with a total of 51 averaging £513.92, topping at £710 for a 10-week-old British Blue from Messrs JP & GJ Simpson, Knock Cross, purchased by Messrs JH & ME Chappelhow, Friendship Farm. Aberdeen Angus bred heifers topped at £410 for a 4-week-old calf from AJ Barraclough, Gatelands Farm. Dairy-sired calves sold to extreme rates topping at £370 for a 2-month-old Fleckvieh bull from Howes Farming. Black & White calves sold to £295 from Messrs H & EM Hunter & Son, Cape Farm.
