Today we held our fortnightly sale of 105 cast cows.
Larger numbers were forward once again, with all buyers present to ensure a level trade throughout. The sale topped at 371.5ppk/£2656.23 for a Limousin OTM heifer, weighing 715kg from Messrs E & R Brass & Son, Barnskew, purchased by Jewitt Meat Company. A six-year-old Limousin X Beef Shorthorn cow, from the same home, achieved 324.5ppk/£2203.36. An OTM Montbeliarde cow topped at £2101.05/333.5ppk from Colby Farms.
The best of the Holstein cows topped at £2057.99 from Skirwith Abbey, with an OTM Holstein realising 287.5ppk from Messrs TR & PE Little, Low Moor Dyke.
Simmental cows, straight from the field, topped at a staggering £2287.92 for 917kg, from Messrs Pearson, Manor Farm.
Messrs TW Bell & Son, Hill Top, sold 3 Limousin cows, 11-14-years-old, to average a very healthy 295.5ppk, topping at 324.5ppk/£2170.91.
Cast bulls topped at £2899.81/354.5ppk for a Limousin, weighing 818kg from Mr CA Cannon, Friarbiggin.

More demand in the clean cattle section was witnessed, with Messrs WM & JE Shuttleworth, Barbon Fell House, selling a Limousin heifer, weighing 660kg to 399.5ppk/£2,636.70, selling to Jewitt Meat Company.
The best of the Limousin bulls sold to 389.5ppk/£2,925.15 from Messrs D Raine, Old Parks, weighing 751kg, selling to R Pearson Wholesale Butchers.
More numbers are required on a fortnightly basis to meet the strong demand.
