On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 2,775 Prime Hoggs. Where weight was without doubt king of the ring, heavies £10 - £15 up on the week regularly £220 - £235. A whole sale average of 409ppk or 419sqq or £194.59 per head. Messrs M T P & S D Wills, Fawcett Park hits the highlight with his pen of 22 Mule hoggs weighing 58kg selling for £227 a head. Topping todays sale overall at 505ppk came for a pen of 4 Beltex hoggs weighing 40kg achieving £202 from Messrs W R & F D Siddle, Honeypot. Top price per head of £239 came for a cracking pen of 14 Suffolk hoggs weighing 60kg or 398ppk from S McSwiggan, Buninver Road. 4 other pens closely following at £238 per head. The Bland Team at Clea Hall once again brought forward some excellent Herdwick hoggs , 55kg selling to £215 and 47kg at £182. With a pen of 19 weighing 36kg sold to 397ppk or £143. Mules sold to 398ppk for a pen weighing 50kg at £199 from Messrs J C Robinson, Black Leases. Messrs R & J M Ridley, Ranbeck sold a pen of 28 Cheviot Mules weighing 51kg achieving £215.
